Nebraska Legislature Alert

LB371 was introduced to the Nebraska Legislature earlier this month to "Prohibit an individual under nineteen years of age or under twenty-one years of age from being present at a drag show...." However, Senator Hunt is attempting to Amend the bill to include text that would define a "religious indoctrination camp" and make it illegal for anyone under 19 to attend. Per the amendment, a "religious indoctrination camp means a camp, vacation Bible study, retreat, lock-in, or convention held by a church, youth group, or religious organization for the purpose of indoctrinating children with a specific set of religious beliefs." Such an amendment, if passed, would have a crippling impact to every Church's Children and Youth ministry.

Another hearing is planned on January 31 at the State Capital at 1:30pm. Be in prayer for that hearing and, if possible, it would be great if God's people would be physically present in support of the original bill and reject the amendment.

[Your Senator’s Name],

I strongly oppose LB371 Amendment 74 and as a legislator it is your duty and responsibility to do the same. You have sworn to support the constitution of the United States, and the state of Nebraska. When you review this small subset of precedence, I trust you will see why Amendment 74 was never intended to become law in Nebraska.

On January 19, 1853, the United States Congress as part of a Congressional investigation recorded the report of Mr. Badger of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

“We are Christians, not because the law demands it, not to gain exclusive benefits or to avoid legal disabilities, but from choice and education; and in a land thus universally Christian, what is to be expected, what desired, but that we shall pay a due regard to Christianity, and have a reasonable respect for its ministers and religious solemnities”

On March 27, 1854, the United States Congress received the report of Mr. Meacham of the House Committee on the Judiciary.

“Had the people, during the Revolution, had a suspicion of any attempt to war against Christianity, that Revolution would have been strangled in its cradle. At the time of the adoption of the Constitution and the amendments, the universal sentiment was that Christianity should be encouraged, not any one sect. Any attempt to level and discard all religion would have been viewed with universal indignation”

In May 1854, the thirty fourth Congress passed a resolution in the House which declared

“The people of these United States, from their earliest history to the present time, have been led by the hand of a kind Providence, and are indebted for the countless blessings of the past and present, and dependent for continued prosperity in the future upon Almighty God; and whereas the great vital and conservative element in our system is the belief of our people in the pure doctrines and divine truths of the gospel of Jesus Christ, it eminently becomes the representatives of a people so highly favored to acknowledge in the most public manner their reverence for God.”

Vidal vs. Girard’s Executors, 1844

“If the purest principles of morality are to be taught. Where are they found? Whosoever searches for them must go to the source for which the Christian man derives his faith… the bible.”

Trinity vs. the US - 1892

”Our laws and our institutions must necessarily be based upon and embody the teachings of the Redeemer of mankind. It’s impossible that it should be otherwise; and to this extent our civilization and our institutions are emphatically Christian.”
